           ORANGEISM IN CANADA

        Ulstermen's Prominent Part

With reference to the report of the 6th
biennial session of the Supreme Grand Orange Lodge
of the United States which appears in "Ulster
[-----] 's letter this week, Br. W. Dudley
Field, of Holywood, Co. Down writes ;
"Nearly all of the Supreme Grand officers
are Ulstermen or of Ulster descent. For instance

Wor. Br. R.A. Gilmore, P.S.G.M., is a Kilrea,
Co. Derry, man, proprietor of the famous
Derry Nurseries in Philadelphia. Wor. Br.
Loftus H. Reid, J.P., Imperial Grand Secretary
of British America, is an Enniskillen man. He
served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force
during the war and attained the rank of major.
He will be delighted to meet any Ulster Orangemen
any weekday in the Offices of the Grand Orange Lodge
of British America, 15, Berto Street, Toronto, and
will be pleased to help and advise them. Br. [Brother?]
Reid is also a member of the Toronto Board of Education.
Wor. Br. [Brother?] David Graham is a direct descendant
of the famous State Grand Master, David Graham, who
carried an Orange Flag, bullet riddled, on horseback
through the terrible New York 12 July riots of 1870
although badly wounded. You will be pleased to know
that through the publicity of 'The Belfast Weekly News'
of the Pretoria church parade and the Orange hymn
sung at this service that I have received no
less than six applications for same, which testifies
to the popularity of "The Belfast Weekly News".
