My Dear Joseph
I have been thinking of you repeatedly
of late, and am thinking long for a remittance
as I really need it besides the positive losses
which last year intuched [induced?] upon us, there were
others of a questionable nature which (if ever
they be any use / are not available at
present. And having large sums to pay
regularly in cash, beside some loans I need every
pound I can collect to keep me on safe
ground. There are weighty considerations involved
as there is in the case of every man of [Chusuater?] /
in my keeping faith and [credit?] with others.
And as a man of principle yourself you can
can apreciate [appreciate?] my motives. But not
being the head of a large family you
cannot fully feel with me in this matter.
I therefore particularly request your friendly
attention soon. I hope you are able and
willing to do as I request.
My family thank God is in health.
Mr Montgomery received a letter from you
last week I heare [hear?]. They are will [well?] as also
your Br [brother?] Money & theirs. Potatoes a failure
to the extent of one half or two thirds the crop.
which however was large. Prices low
not withstanding. Wheat today 10/ 10/3
Oats 5/9 to 6/3. Oat Meal 10/6 to 10/9. The
linen trade a little better for some
months past. But yarns and
cloth very low in prices. Manufacturers
making a little. I had a letter today
from our old neighbour Saml [Samuel?] Adams who went
with his family in June to Dunville upper
Canada. He had buried his wife / poor
fellow / last month. Otherwise he is pleased
with their removal to America. I hope
you are still striving to walk in the
good and right way. We need to stand
prepared for the other World. Only safe and
happy with a sense of pardoning much.

Dr Bamba and sister were over here a few
months since. Eliz [Elizabeth?] Monty [Montgomery?] went home
with them, and as the Dr had one or two ill turns
with bleeding at the nose since, and Miss
B. [Bamba?] ill with sore eyes she has not returned
yet. My Hannah joins me the love. She [wonders?]
