Transcribed from the Belfast Newsletter, 29 December, 1786 Died lately on the Guinea coast Mr. John Clark of Antrim who had been one of the eleven saved in an open boat in Oct. 1782 out of H.M.S. Centaur. Though on that dreadful occasion only eleven on the whole crew of a 74 gun ship reached the shore, after being fifteen days tossed about on the open ocean with scarcely any food, not one of the number could recover their wages on account it is supposed of the loss of the ships books.
