LOSS OF MERCHANT SHIPS.
QUESTION.
Sir JOHN PARKINGTON said, he
wished to ask the President of the Board
of Trade, Whether he intends to propose
any change in the Tribunal prescribed
by the Merchant Shipping Act for
investigating the causes of the loss of
Merchant Ships at sea, or in any other
manner to provide increased security for
the safety of passengers in passenger
ships?
Mr. MILNER GIBSON, in reply, said,
the subject referred to by the right hon.
Baronet was under consideration, and a
measure dealing with the question was in
course of preparation; it would also
contain some other Amendments of the
Merchant Shipping Act. In the present
state of public business, however, he did
not think it very probable that such a
measure would pass during the present
Session.
