Cover of letter reads:
Personal. A.W. [Andrew Woods?] Smyth Esq.
Supt.[Superintendent?] Mint U.S.
New Orleans
La [Louisiana?]
TREASURY DEPARTMENT,
BUREAU OF THE MINT,
WASHINGTON D.C., Aug 29, 1892
My Dear Doctor,
I enclose two notices
which I received today &
I am sorry to say I have
not much provision for
them. I am at present
pushed for money, tis,
I think, unnecessary to
say to you that I have
some money, but it is
tied up & at this moment
I cannot get it.
It would be a great favor
to me, if you could let
me have $150.00 to pay this
life insurance.
I am aware that I am
indebted to you for life,
in addition to a financial
indebtedness of a hundred
dollars, but who is a
person to go to when in
trouble but to his friends.
The boys here in the office,
like myself, at present, are
broke, & and can't aid me.
There is nothing new here
politically or otherwise.
My kindest regards to Mrs. S.
Smyth?] & Artie
Very truly yours,
B.E. Butler
Please return the notices.
