W. J. C. Allen Esq

              My very dear friend
As yet I am without the
letter with which you usually favour me at this season
of the year. I sincerely hope it is not from any want of
health on the part of yourself or family for whom I pray
the enjoyment of many years of happy life.
Messrs. J. & J. Stuart & Co. of New York inform me that
under date of 11th inst. they have forwarded to you Exchange
at sight on my account for Ninety Pounds Sterling œ90.
This exchange is said to be in favour of J. C. Allen Esq but
I hope this is a clerical omission and not that the exchange
will be found to be as instructed in favour of W. J. C. Allen
Esq
but if found to be otherwise I trust it will not be the occasion
of any delay in your releasing the amount immediately on
arrival - Of this amount I wish Thirty Pounds œ30 of it for
Lucinda Carroll Thirty Pounds for Margaret M'Whinney œ30
Twenty Pounds œ20 for Mrs Grace M'Whinney [McWhinney?] and the
other Ten pounds to be given to said Margaret to be laid out for

her for such comforts as she may think her sister Grace may
require, say Five Pounds on receipt of this and Five Pounds six
months hence - I am thankful to say that my general health is as
good as could be expected, and that my sight still enables me
to walk about the streets, though not to recognise
countenances.
             ever truly yours
                     R. [Robert?] Campbell.
