Petition of Hugh McDaniel for Assisted Passages
To Evelyn John Shirley Esqr [Esquire?] M.P. [Member Parliament?] The Petition of Hugh Mc Daniel of Carrickaduy [Carrickadooey?] Humbly Sheweth, That your Petitioner was left 4 acres of the most barron and unproductive part of this, or any other neighbouring Town, by his Grandfather, which 4 acres he improved so high, as to excite the admiration of Mr Lean, when going that way. Your Petitioner's family now consists of himself, his wife, and 6 children, whom his little farm can no longer maintain, and therefore, by permission of Mr Trench, he has sold it to his cousin, Thomas Fox. That after clearing up his Rents, and other demands your Petitioner will never be able to conduct his large family to America, and with this apprehension, he has applied to Mr Trench for assistance, but that truly worthy Gentleman, courteously replied, that his power in that instance had been recently retrenched, and he must apply to your Honor [Honour?] on the occasion. You [Your?] Petitioner would refer to Mr Lane, for Character and industry, and begs leave to solicit your Honor's [Honour's?] aid to remove his family, to where they can subsist by their Labour. And he will ever pray Hugh McDaniel Jany [January?] 18th 1845. Hugh McDaniel of Carrickaduy [Carrickadooey?] Jany. [January?] 1845Close
