For taking an Account of the Population Ireland^
and of the Increase or Diminution thereof.

I it is essentially necessary to the Administration Preamble,


1 2111 % of Government on sound and enlightened principles, that
i' the progressive Increase or Diminution in the Population of


every Country should be periodically ascertained, at stated
intervals of time, for the information of the Legislature, in order that the '


causes of such Increase or Diminution may be accurately investigated,


and due provision made thereupon, as shall be deemed requisite;

Excellent Majesty, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords

spiritual and Temporal, and Commons^ in this present Parliament as- Persons in
sembled, and by the Authority of the same THAT within that part of
the United Kingdom called Ireland, such Persons as shall be for that
purpose appointed in the manner hereinafter mentioned, to act in and
for every Tovvnland, Parish and Place, shall, at the time and in the man¬
ner hereinafter directed, severally lake an Account of the number of
Persons who shall be actually found at the time of taking such Accounts
to be within the limits of such Townlands, Parishes and Places re¬
spectively, and shall set down the several particulars respecting the
same, according to the Form prescribed in the Schedule annexed to this
Act.
