STATEMENT OF THE OFFENCES PUNISHABLE

lawful occasions, shall rise, assemble, or appear by day or by night to thfe terror
of His Majesty's subjects; every person so offending^ being thereof lawfully


convicted upon indictment,' shall be adjudged guilty of an high misdemeanor, &c.

V. If any person or persons shall after the hour of six in the forenoon, the
sun being risen^ and before sun set, commit any of the offences last herein


before mentioned, he, she, or they so offending, shall, on conviction thereof, &c.

Section 6 enacts that justices, sheriffs, and other peace officers may, taking
the necessary assistance, apprehend and disperse all persons engaged in such
crimes.


Section 7 is repealed by 7 Will. IV. and 1 Vict, c, 23, s. 1.


Sections 8—13 relate to presentments for compensation.


Section 14 relating to offences committed before 1st December 1775 has
expired.


Section 15 is repealed by 1 & 2 Will. IV. c. 44, s. I.


Section 16 is an indemnity for witnesses.


Section 17 is repealed by 1 & 2 Will. iV. c. 44, s. 1.


Section 18 is as to presentments.


Sections 19 & 20 are repealed by 1 & 2 Will. IV. c. 44.


Section 21, "all and every person and persons who shall by force, violence,
" or menace, unlawfully impose or tender any oath on any book, or in any other
" manner, any solemn engagement on or to any person or persons, shall on
" conviction thereof, &c. * * * * * and that it shall


" not be necessary in any indictment for said offence to set forth .the said oath
" or oaths or solemn engagements particularly."


Section 22 relates to summoning and examining witnesses.


Section 23. Every person who by sound of drum, horn, musick, Are, shouting,
or other signal, shall knowingly excite, encourage, or promote such unlawful
meetings as aforesaid shall be guilty of a high misdemeanor.


Accessories may be convicted, though the principals be not taken or con¬
victed.

Section 8. Extends the Act 15 & 16 Geo. III. c. 21, to cities and counties of
cities. The rest of the Act is repealed by Stat. Law Rev. (I.) Act, 1879.

For the further prevention of tumultuous risings and assemblies, and for the
more adequate and effectual punishment of persons guilty of outrage, riot,
and illegal combination, and of adminisiering and faking unlawful oaths
