The following is a return of the number of cases of fever reported as attended by the Medical Officers of Dispensary Dis¬ tricts during each of the fourteen years ended 30th September, 1S7S, beginning with 26,566 cases of attack in 1S65, and ending with 10,945 in 1878:—

The return exhibits a gradual and remarkable decrease of cases.
In the Reports (of the Poor Law Commissioners) for 1860 and 1868 the decrease of fever amongst the poorer classes in Irolaud in comparison with a former period was fully commented upon.
Tho decrease has since gone on, and it seems probable that tho action of more stringent sanitary laws, which began in 1866, .is
well as tho material improvement which has taken place in the food, clothing, and habitations of tho people, has contributed to the result pointed out.
