I have the honour to enclose copy of a report from the Controller of the Sorting Office, General Post Office, London, on the subject of the writ of election for the county Leitrim.
A special messenger from this office was despatched by the night mail of yesterday with the letter in question, with proper instructions to the postmaster of Carrick-on-Shannon as to its treatment, in case it could not be delivered either to the Sheriff or to the Sub-Sheriff.

This election writ was received here this morning from Dublin, addressed to the High Sheriff, Park-street, Grosvenor-square, and was delivered by the letter-earner.
The letter-carrier states that he was told on delivering the writ at Park-street, that it must be sent back to Dublin again ; but it was not given back to him.
A letter answering this description in every respect was received in the course of the day from Mount-street, Grosvenor-square, addressed to the Lord Lieutenant, Dublin, and was forwarded by the express mail at 4.30
p.m.
