Relief of the destitute Poor, and for the prevention of Mendicancy in Ireland; % it therefore QfetutCtea, by The KING's most Excellent Majlsiy, by and uith the Advice and Consent of the 5 Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this piesent Par¬ 

liament assembled, and by the Authority of the same, TIJATthe Poor Law Commissioners for the time being shall be the Commissioners to carry this Act into execution. 
And be it Enacted,Thai it shall be lawful for the said Commissioners, 10 or any one of them, at any time or place, by summons under the seal of 

the Commissioners, or under the hand and seal of any one of them, to require the attendance of all such peisons as they or he may think fit to call before them or any of them upon any matter connected with the objects or purposes or the execution of the provisions of this Act, 15 and to make inquiries, and require returns, and to administer oaths, 

and examine all such persons upon oath, and to require and enforce the production upon oath of Books, Contracts, Agreements, Accounts, maps, plans, surveys, valuations and writings, or copies thereof re¬ spectively in anywise relating to any such matter, or, where any person 20 shall object to be sworn, or where the Commissioners or Commis¬ 

sioner shall, for any other reason, think fit, in lieu of lequiring such oath as aforesaid, to require any such person lo make and subscribe a declaration of the truth of the, matters respecting which he shall have 264.
