8. Triennial Elections in TIrhan Districts.


We are empowered by Section 23 of the Local Government
(Ireland) Act, 1898, where ime-third of the councillors of any
urban county district are elected annually, on a request made by
a resolution of the council passed by two-thirds of the memberw
voting on such resolution, to make an Order applying to such
urban district the provisions of the Act with regard to the
duration of office of county councillors, and since the Act came
into o])eration we have made Orders for triennial elections in the
following Urban Districts:—

4. Meetings of Town Authorities.


(a.) Half-yearly Meeting. Section 27 (3) of Local Government
{Ireland) Act, 1898.


On a request from the Urban District Council of Bally¬
money we made an Order, under the powers conferred on us by
Section 27 (3) of the Local Government (Ireland) Act, 1898,
authorizing the Urban District Council of Ballymoney to hold
half-yearly instead of quarterly meetings in connection with the
business transferred to the Council by the aforesaid Section.
This is the first case in which an application has been made by an
Urban District Council to hold half-yearly instead of quarterly
meetings.*
