The extent to which sanitary authorities have availed them¬ selves of the provisions of the Act during the past year will be seen by the following table whhh shows the number of Orders under Seal fixing areas of charge for costs of undertakings given by such authorities to the Postmaster-General, made each year since the passing of the Act:—

VI.—Provisional 
Orders. 
During the year 1901-1902 we made twenty-one Provisional Orders (exclusive of those under the Labourers Acts), eight of these being under the Public Health (Ireland) Acts, 1878 to 1900, four under the Housing of the Working Classes Acts, 1890 to 1896, eight under the Local Government (Ireland) Acts, 1898 to 1901, and one under the Irish Education Acts, 1892 and 1893. 
A list of these Orders is given in the Appendix.* 

VII.—Loans. 
In Urban, Rural, and Unite 1 Districts a considerable part of the expenditure on sewerage, water supply and other local im¬ provements is defrayed by means of loans to the sanitary authorities, or Joint Boards, as the case may be, which expendi¬ ture we sanction in pursuance of Sections 237 and 247 of the Public Health (Ireland) Act, 1878, nnrl under certain local and general Acts-For the purpose of the Housing of the Working Classes Acts we also sanction loans to Urban Sanitary Authorities, and to the Commissioners of towns which are not Urban Sanitary Districts, in cases where it is desired to provide accom¬ modation for the working classes. 
The loans sanctioned as above during the year ended the 31st of March, 1902, amounted to £221,218 8s. 
We also sanctioned during the year loans amounting to £47,033 14s.

which were applied for by Boards of Guardians for Workhouse buildings and improvements, loans for the pur¬ pose of the Labourers Acts amounting to £358,748, and loans to County Councils and the Joint Committees of Lunatic Asylums amounting to £114,514 Qs.
