now to report that no such application has been since made to us
by the governing body of any town.


But in regard to Provisional Orders of another and far more
important class, we have since the date of our last Report issued
the following, viz.:—


1. An Order, dated 8th May, 1874, authorizing the Corporation
of Dublin to take certain lands in the county of Wicklow, under
the powers of the Lands Clauses Consolidation Act, to he used
for purposes connected with the Dublin water-works ; authorizing
them to borrow a sum of £50,000 for the purposes of the Dublin
Corporation Water-works Acts, in addition to the amount
authorized by those Acts to be borrowed ; giving certain additional
powers to the Corporation to prevent the fouling of water, and
in reference to the supply of water to extra municipal districts;
authorizing an increased provision for the maintenance of the Fire
Brigade, and extending the time limited by the Act of 1870 for the
completion of the works; which Order was opposed before a Com¬
mittee of the House of Lords, but unsuccessfully, and the Act con¬
firming it received the Royal assent on the 7th August, 1874.


2. An Order dated 27th June, 1874, authorizing the Commis¬
sioners of the Township of Kingstown to borrow a sum of £10,000
for the purpose, of carrying out a complete system of drainage.


3. An Order dated 27th October, 1874, authorizing the Town
Commissioners of Galway to levy a rate of 2s. in the pound in addi¬
tion to rates already leviable by them, to be called the " Paving and
Repairing Rate," to be applied in paving, repairing, and cleansing
the streets of Galway, also authorizing the Town Commissioners
to apply 4cZ. of each shilling of the Improvement Rate already
leviable, in providing and maintaining a public slaughter-house,
watch-house, fire engines and watering carts.


4. An Order dated 5th February, 1875, authorizing the Town
Commissioners to borrow £3,000 on the security of the tolls
leviable under the Galway Improvement Act, to be applied in pay¬
ing off a judgment debt due to the Galway Gas Light Company,
in improving the existing slaughter-house in the town, and pro¬
viding an office and watch-house.


The three last mentioned Orders are now before Parliament for
confirmation.


30. The following are cases in which the Petition for a Provi¬
sional Order has reached us and is still the subject of inquiry in
the ordinary course.


1. From the Town Commissioners of Galway for permission to
put in force the powers of the Lands Clauses Consolidation Act,
with a view to obtaining land for a cemetery.


2. From the Corporation of the Borough of Wexford for powers
to construct, maintain, and use water works; to put in force the
provisions of the Lands Clauses Consolidation Act, and to borrow
money for the purpose of executing such works, and also to levy
additional rates, both as " domestic water rate and public water
rate.
