Philadelphia June 27th 1823
Dear Mother Brother and Sister
I send you these few lines in answer to yours
bearing date 4th of Aprile [April?] 1823 which I recevd [received?] June
the 24th by the hand of Hugh Flanigan [Flanagan?] which Margret
[Margaret?] [Magivren?] brought to New York and he told me there was
one posted for John he was going to post mine in Phila [Philadelphia?]
for Carlisle but fortunately he met acquaintance [sic] that told him I
was here, These [sic] leaves [us?] all in good health at present
thank god for his Mercies but I am sorry for my Mothers bad health
hoping that she will recover yet, you mention that you wrote to me in
Decemb [December?] last I did not receve [receive?] it yet, when I left
Carlisle John promised if A letter should come there he would forward
it here but there has none come yet I wrote to him last week and I will
now write in a few days again I left Carlisle about the 12th of Aprile
[April?] last Thomas Brown and John and all my friends were well
John was still in the old place and his school was getting [getting?]
A little better with him, Jean had bad heath [health?] last winter but
is quite well since she came to the city I bought a Horse and Cart and
follows Carting now which I can make a pretty good lively hood
[livelihood?] at I can live cheaper in the City than the country for every
thing except House rent.

[I?] I understand Margret [Margaret?] Magivren has A [bus----?]
me which I am thankfull to you for she has [----?]
In N York and [she required me to?] I wrote [to?] [----?]
yesterday to forward the bundle by the steam [----?]
line and I expect it in A few days, Betty is in N York also and
I gave Margret [Margaret?] all the [---?] I could how to find her, I will
write to Robt [Robert?] [Mc---?] concerning the money in a few days.
Dear Brother you will excuse me for not [writing?]
sooner since I came here I never could find [---?]
going out for Ireland or I would, and by the [--?]
[too?] high for you now when I am in the [Teapo?]
watch an opportunity of sending by hand
you will excuse my few hasty thoughts I [m--?]
man on the Warf today which is going off to [---?]
tomorrow to go home in A vessel bound for [---?]
which I am sending this with and I came home [a--?]
these few lines without having time to Collect
thoughts, you will please write every oppertunity

School and they are both learning very [w---?]
Jean wrote a letter home about the first of [---?]
Markets are low of all kinds here at [present?]

James Brown Came and paid us A visit
in winter he talked of Going home and I wrote to him
since I was here but recvd [received?] no answer as yet.
Jean joins with me in sending her love to you all and we
Desire to be remembered to all our enquiring friends and
acquaintances I have no more to say at present
