Dear Sir or Madam.

I thought you might be interested in this document.
It's a copy of the discharge papers of an
American Soldier of the Civil War who came
from this part of Ireland.

It was sent to the Stewart Familys by an
American seeking information about this
man. Some years ago apparantly he returned
to N Ireland after his discharge from the
Army and lived out the rest of his life here.

CERTIFICATE OF DISABILITY FOR DISCHARGE
Priv James Stewart, of 1st St Henry's
Company, "K" of the First Regiment of the
United States MD [Maryland?] Vet Vols was enlisted by
Captain Johnson at Relay House MD [Maryland?]
on the 28'' day of May 1861, to serve 3 years;
he was born in Antrim in the State of Ireland,
is 23 years of age, 5 feet 11 inches high,
Light complexion Blue eyes, Light hair,
and by occupation when enlisted a Gardener
During the last two months said soldier
has been unfit for duty every day because
of Amputation of the right leg at its
lower third, made necessary by a gunshot
wound received in action near [Weldon?] RR
