Dear Sirs,
I am still trying to trace my
great grandfather's family (Alexander
Girvin McGrattan) who immigrated
to Amherst Island, Canada in 1841
on his brother's boat. He was the
Captian [captain?] . also. His ship
sank off the coast near Cork and his body
washed ashore there. His name
was David McGrattan. It seems that he
had taken most of his family to Canada
except one daughter Jane who was
still in Ireland with a grandmother.
Another Brother of Alexander McGrattan
was Peter who enlisted in the English
Army from Amherst Island in 1842 was stationed
in Cabul, killed in the Crimian war. He was
awarded a medal for bravery which the family
still has-sergt Peter McGratten 9th -Regt
(regiment) where would I find this record?
Thanking you for any help you can give me.

                Yours truly
                Mrs Edwin L. Landry
