Dear Robert,
I received your welcome letter a few
days ago with the En-closure [Enclosure?]
for five pounds I was glad to get it as
there was only 1l [œ?]. in the house, however
I am now all right have paid off the debts
and am to-day ploughing the field and have
Donald cutting the Hedge.
The winter here has been very wet and raw
and cold, but it is now nearly over, and it
is like Spring - the birds are singing, and
the folks are now beginning to look about for
new potato seed.
I do not think I will want to borrow any
more money from you I have a payment of about
twenty five dollars to make on a lot in
Brooklyn, but I won't know till [until?] near
the end of the month as there is a party wants
to buy it. I will write you again shortly. I
must make this letter brief as it is near Mail
time.
I am glad to hear you have gone back again to
Maguire & Sloan I think your having been so long
there, you will likely be better.
Old Margaret died here last night. I was up
to see her a while before she died. Poor old
creature, she was very desolate. Robert Hazlitt
and I will have to bury her.
It is a shame that neither James nor his
sisters done anything for her. She has been
going about here a kind of begging, and it is
good for her she is dead.
My father still keeps well he is able to go
about. Miss Gilliland desires me to remember
her very kindly to you. I will write again
soon.
