Mary Craig, [Later Mary Cumming?], Poem and Sketch.

(This is below a pencil sketch showing St.Lenann
on the isle and the bark close inshore with a
female form on board. A child's work.)
           St.Lenanns.
Oh! haste and leave this sainted isle
Unholy bark, ere the morning smile,
For on thy deck, though dark it be
     A female form I see;
And I have sworn this sainted sod
Shall never by woman's feet be trod.

(This second poem is on the reverse of the sketch
mentioned above.)
How dear to me the hour when day light dies
And sunbeams melt along the silent sea,
Forthen sweet dreams of other days arise
And memory breathes her vesper song to thee.
And as I watch the line of light that plays
Along the smooth wave towards the burning west,
I long to tread that golden path of rays
And think 'twould lead to some bright isle of rest.
              Mary Craig .
