My Dear Friend
I received yesterday your favour of the 4th
inst with statement of my a/c [account?] up to the 1st inst.
showing a balance in my favour of œ19-0-1 Nineteen Pounds
and one penny Stg [Sterling?]
I have had great pleasure in delivering Mrs Allen's kind
remembrance to Mrs Smith, Mrs Sibley & Miss Longstreet.
The two latter are now with me, Mrs Smith in better health
than she was twelve months ago. Miss Longstreet is complaining
today - I hope temporarily.
My own health has not been good but the decline has not
been more than might be expected from age.
I was pleased to hear from Mr Thos. [Thomas?] Caskey of
the comfortable situation of yourself and family, and
especially gratified in the prospects of your son. I will
thank you for the papers you mention respecting his
examination as it would be interesting to compare with that
of Sibley Campbell the son of my nephew Robert who
graduated two summers ago at Athens College. He and another
took the first honour. It was divided.
He has since graduated in the Medical College here and
joind his uncle H. F. Campbell in practice who stands very high
both as Physician and Surgeon.
On enquiry I find that the Executors of your cousin H.C.
Bryson are his son William Bryson, James G. Bailie, a
merchant of this place, and J. E. Harper a lawyer & son of
William Harper Decd [deceased?]. I think the latter has
not qualified.
J & J Stuart & Co. of New York City advise me on the 20th
inst that they have issued their draft on the Ulster Bank
Belfast Ireland No. 6160 for œ89-18-2 Eighty nine Pounds
eighteen and Two pence which they promise to send you next
mail on my account.
I suppose apyable on sight but they do not say so.
