Bellindrate [Ballindrait?] Strabane
Ireland
                                   Canfield Dec'r 16th 90 [1890?]
Dear Uncle & Aunt
I now take pleasure in sending you a few lines
to let you know we are all well hoping
to hear from you all enjoying the same
we are having a splendid winter
nice and mild and good sleighing
Mother keeps quite smart She is able
to be around all the time and do most
of her own work she sends her love to
you all, Uncle John Lowry is in our
house every day himself and the rest of
the family are all well i have been verry [very?]
Buisy [busy?] this fall and winter attending
Auction Sales there are a great many
Sales this fall a Sale nearly every day
and everything sells high except
Horses and they are verry [very?]
cheap the reason for Horses being so cheap is
they are not used any more in cities the
cars are all run by Electricity in stead [instead?]
of being drawn by Horses so there is not
the demand for Horses and they have
Been a great many Raised these last few
years they range for a good work Horse
from $50.00 to $100.00 and it takes an extra
good one to fetch the latter figures -
Cattle & sheep sells high cows from $35.00
to $45.00 a head yearlings for $20.00 & over
sheep from 8 to 1- [10?] Dollars a head but
Hay is verry [very?] cheap it is hard work to
get four dollars a ton on a years Credit
the Country is over stocked with Hay
we had a big crop of Hay last season some
farmers having from 75 to 100 tons of it
and lots of Hay left over from Last year
a great many farmers that have [clover?]
hay are thrashing it for the seed [alsike?]
[clover?] seed is fetching $10.00 a bushell
and it is turning out pretty good some
odd ones have from 50 - 75 Bushells [Bushels?]
of seed and getting $10.00 a Bushell so it
pays them well to thrash it
and the Hay for feed is not much
the worse for thrashing i received
a paper from you a few days ago and
#PAGE 2
[I?] send you two papers with this
letter hope you will receive them all
right - Mr Cranston & family were all
well the last we heard from them
we are quite a way a part [apart?] so we dont
see them verry [very?] often you will please
Excuse this writing for i have my
thumb tied up from a bad Bruise
so it seems quite a job to hold the
pen with it, i will now fetch this to
a close Wishing you all a Merry Xmas [Christmas?]
& Happy New Year and many Returns
of the Same is the wishes of
               John Walker
