                                                  70 Corn Market
                                                  Dublin 27/6/48 [1848?]

My Dear James

The Bearer is my Brother "Henry" who is looking for a situation in
any position in which he may be able to earn with industry & honesty as
much as will be able to support himself & those who are nearly & dearly
related to him by the closest ties of humanity. He finds that through a
variety of causes Ireland does not present any opening under his present
circumstances adapted to his wants. If it be at all with in [within?] your
power to further his object I shall certainly feel it as if [done?] personally
to myself. I ask this favour on the grounds of that friendship exists
betwixt you and I. I beleive [believe?] we have mutually regarded each other
with a Benevolence spring from this soil "Love to the Supreme Being" & as
that soil looses [loses?] nothing of its vitality in the lapse of thime [time?]
I hope that so long as we exist "in Christ Jesus" it shall grow & vegetate
until it is perfected in the upper and better world. I ask now for a proof of
its existence toward me through him because I feel he has regarded me in a
more peculiarly feeling of Brotherhood than any of my Bretheren [Brethren?].
He will furnish you with particulars relative to myself in my removal from
Belfast to Dublin. He has now been in the Woollen & Grocer Business
for a considerable time for himself & I should think well adapted for a
general trade.
You may therefore recommend him with confidence as to abilities
to your Master or any other house & as to character he will shortly
[establish?] that for himself. In this case facts which are stubborn things
will preach volumes. Just weigh him impartially.
I wrote you 24 January last & sent I think two papers but have had
no answer. If you have not time to write drop me a paper.
All news that might be interesting to you in reference to Ireland he
will tell you.
I am in I. H. Webb & Co.'s Corn Market having charge of the Hosiery
Dept. [Department?] and am Buyer for it. Two days ago the Governor was
speaking to me about going to London in Sept. first to buy. My salary has been
raised without being directly asked & I expect will immediately be raised
again.
I have had extraordinary times here in the Spiritual world but my
limits stops me giving particulars in this introductory note.
Hoping that you will be the means of advancing my Brother's
Temporal and Spiritual Interests,
                                     I remain
                                 Yours affectionately
                                     Bristow Johnson
