Transcribed from the Belfast Newsletter, 16 June, 1785. A number of gentlemen of this town went in a body a few days ago to see the canal at present carrying on between Belfast and Lough Neagh. They returned with a very high report of Mr. Owens the engineer etc. By Christmas next he expects the lighters may pass from Belfast to Soldierstown.
