To: Her Loving Friend
From: Margaret Martin
from Mrs. McGifford saying
they did well this year.
They have built a big barn
that will hold twelve horses & twelve
cows and 50 tons of hay.
Hessie's husband bought
some land 2 years ago and sold
it this fall for $1000. more than
he paid .
I am glad some folks
are making money. The boats
have had another poor year
and if I wasn't teaching I would
fare poor.
The houses are wearing
out and its repair all the time
The old lady next door and sons
are regular cranks and keep
me busy mending & waiting on
them. Alice and I earn $130
a month so we can get along
and save too. Uncle Sam &
Aunt Sarah were out to a funeral
with me. They are quite well
although Aunt always has her
trials. She gave me some myrtle
for Ma's grave.
We would like to have you
come here and stay with us and
you would have it easier than before
Mrs Fallow stays with us
and keeps house from Mon [Monday?]
to Friday night. She and Minnie
get along well together.
Mrs Fallow had Asthma
in the Old Country but never had
it here.
Hoping that you and James
& Mrs & family are well and all
my friends
Ever your loving friend
Margaret Martin
P.S I would like to know if you
have thought seriously of coming . You
know you are always welcome & we would [torn] to have you
