Philadelphia April 14th 1859
Dear Parents, Brothers and Sister
We wrote some time ago and since then
recd [received?] a number of the "Observer" containing the
famous Randalstown affair.
I avail myself of the opportunity afforded by Mr Eggelson
goeing [going?] home to send a few newspapers. Will you be kind
enough after you have examined them yourselves to scatter them
according to the addresses
Robert was willing to let you see a sample of His work and
therefore manufactured the enclosed pin cushion for his
Grandmother
I mentioned in my last [sic] that our tenant had bought a
house, he has just moved out of ours and we have parted good
friends, we had a mind these some days past to sell our houses
and move nearer the centre of the city, but after considering
the matter in all its bearing we have decided it is better to
remain as we are at least till our family are further advanced
our property has increased in value and will still further
increase, I am today contracting with a builder to add two more
rooms to the house we have to let which will make it rent for
£25.0.0 pounds per year we could have had a tenant before the
other moved but we prefer having it altered before leting
[letting?] it again the builder engages to complete it a month
it will then have six rooms and a large Cellar 28 feet by 16
If providence spares us this summer and smiles upon our
endeavours we intend making several improvements hoping you are
all well and wishing you all prosperity for the present and the
future world we remain
