My Dear Jany
I would write you a longer letter only I
have written to James and have given him all the news that I
have. I have had my head examined by L. fowler the most
celebrated Phrenologist in the United States. I enclose a chart
of it for William, it appears Mr fowler has a higher opinion of
my abilities than ever I entertained myself. William Anderson
brought me to it and he took down in shorthand as fast as it was
spoken, William had been [-----ting?] for him for a long time
before he went to the Herald Office. When he had done he
introduced me to him and he charged me nothing. When did you
hear from Mary, you must tell her when you hear from me and when
you write to me I shall that you will let me know (sic) how she
gets along. I know if you would send her a copy of the Chart she
would like to see it, she often wished for it, you need not be
anxious about me I never felt in better health or spirits, I
should not wonder if you met me in Broadway that you might pass
me without knowing me. I shall send you my likeness in a few
months until you see the change that's in me. I did not shave my
face since I left Liverpool and when I arrived here I found that
no one here shaves only some that are newly arrived in the
Country. it's only one in two hundred that you will see with a
long beard. don't forget to remember me to James, in a month I
will write to him and you both.
