CAPT HUGH GLEN
Capt Hugh Glen was born at Ballywalter Co Down
on 2nd February 1837. He was the eldest son of
Alexander Glen and Mary Askin (2-7-1806 - 8-8-1885)
He emigrated to Canada about 1860 and settled in
Amherst Island where his uncle Samuel Glenn [Glen?]
(1810 - 1858) had gone in 1827. Another uncle Hugh
Glen (1796-1891) had also emigrated to Amherst
Island about 1838.
Capt Hugh Glen married Nessie Glen
(15-8-1869-9/9/1936) a granddaughter of his Uncle
uncle (sic) Samuel Glen (now 2ns above Mentioned) and
daughter of his cousin William Glen (1849-1927) & his
wife RachelMcCormack (1849 -1939)
They had three sons;-
(1) Harold Alexander Glenn (18-[5?]-1897 - 9-12-1918)
(2) William Hugh Glenn (23-2-1899- 1954)
(3) Clifford Cartright Glenn (5-6-1903 - 7-1-1968)
Clifford married Ruth Filson Marshall, a nurse
born 7-6-1902 & is still living in Stella,
Amherst Island, to this day 21 February 1987. They
do not appear to have any family.
Harold Alexander and William Hugh do not appear to
have been married
Capt Hugh Glenn [Glen?] died at Stella in 1921
He was an uncle of the Grogans & Hastings families
of Ballywalter. His elder sister Mary Glen married
Samuel Grogan who was lost at sea in 1881 and his
younger sister Nessie Glen married William Hastings
a sea farer from Ballyhalbert in 1771 (sic)
He had a younger brother [Alexander?] Glen
b. 10-7-1838 who married Nessie Askin [-----]
and went to Amherst Island in Canada about 1863.
Descendants of Captain Hugh Glen born Ballywalter 8/2/1836 died 1921 a son of
Alexander Glen & Mary Askin m & was a nephew of Hugh Glenn & Samuel
