   Scranton Dec. 14. 1949

   Dear Niece just a few lines hoping
to find youself husband and children in
the best of health as for myself and misses
we are pretty good, it was true that there
was a million letters sent to foreign
lands that never was received the [they?] were
lost. This is not the america it was years
ago Everything is awful dear. I worked
when I was young and saved my money
and now I can rest and go out dressed
up as good as the best of them I worked
for the railroad Company and I get a pension
I guess they are all dead in Keenagh
well I have no more to say this time. I remain
your true uncle John and your Aunt hannah
I am sending you a Christmas card I hope you
will receive it
