Why were they called Shanavebts?—A. 
Because they wore old waistooals.

a witness, corroborated the evidence of James Slattery; bis evieTencc was exactly similar with that given by Slattery. 
He gave precisely the same history of the first origin ot the party of Cuiavats and Shanavests, and proved that all those connected in their illegal associations, hud no other object in taking up arms, than to defend them-selves against the attack:, of eagh other. 
The Reverend Jo/tn Ityein, Priest, of Fethard, was examined, and said, That at the Fair he saw some of the Shuimvesls strike the Caravats.
