Note.—The 
Census of 182 1 is the first t lat affords a r neans of comp arison with t hose of subseq uent decades. 
The Nary and Military serving in Ireland are included in the Population Tables in 1801,1871, and 1881, but not in previous Censuses. 
The number in the comity of Galway in 1861 -was 7 ; in 1871, 442 ; and in 1881, 1,081. 

(a) The parish of Inisubofin, containing (in 1881) 250 houses, (247 inhabited and 3 uninhabited), and 1,1G6 persons, -was transferred from the barony of ilurrisk, County of Mayo, to the barony of Ballynahinch, County of Galway, by an Order in Council "which took effect on the 1st of February, 1873. 
The figures for previous Censuses in this Table haye not been altered, and the decrease shown has been calculated on the figures for the area published in 1871.
