APPENDIX to REPORTS relative lo the

Fair support un¬ tenant allowed for.
Average amount of county cess and tithe.
Sixty objections lodged.
Considered by Board of Guardians.

Rate-payers generally content.
No objection from any landlord.

Prevalent disposition to lower the valua¬ tion.

In estimating the value of the tenements out of which the owners had registered freeholds did not make any reference to the value which the owners had set upon them in the IWisti'v Court.
b' y The usual manner in which lands are let in this part of the country by the owners in fee is for three lives or 31 years, but leases for 21 years under middlemen arc more numerous.
There is much competition for land in this Union.
Made no allowance for the effects of such competition in raising ihe market price of land.
Such competition has raised the market price above what a solvent tenant could afford to pay, reserving a reasonable remuneration for his time, labour, and capital.
Never calculated exactly what would be such reasonable remunerat ion, but always allowed what, would fairly support the tenant and such members of his family as lived with him, and assisted in cultivating the farm.
The average acreable amount of county cess over the entire Union is about Od.
per annum of tithe about 7d.
About 60 objections were lodged against the valuation, and the Board of Guardians met pursuant to notice, on the 25th and 28th of November, 1840, for the purpose of hcarino-such objections, when they dismissed about 20 of them as frivolous, about Iwenty were allowed, and there being a doubt as to the remaining 20, the valuators were directed to re-value them, which they accordingly did, and made some alterations which were satisfactory to the tenants, who withdrew their objections.
The rate-payers are generally content with the valuation.
There has been no objection from any landlord.
No notices of appeal have been lodged.
The prevalent grounds of objections were excess of value, compared with other hoklino-s, very few on the ground of actual value, and not many on the ground of excess of areas.
There were no objections on the ground of too low a value except by persons who com¬ plained of their own holdings being too highly valued as compared with such holdings.
The disposition to lower the valuation is most prevalent among tenants.
The supposed reasons for their wishing to lower it are, lest a high valuation should militate against them when re-taking their farms from their landlords, aud increasing their rents.
The valuation is below the rent.
The number of tenements of which valuation altered by revision, was about 40.
